Dad Holds the Walker at a 45 degree Angle…

“I got it, I got it, no I’m fine”  he says as he shuffles his tiny steps across the carpet with his wife holding his hips from behind.  Every two hours he is up using the restroom, too much desire to maintain dignity and independence.   Meanwhile his wife, who cares for him 24/7, denies that she is suffering from sleep deprivation.

“This isn’t okay, you need to sleep.”

“We’re fine. we’ll manage.”

They were on hospice, but because Fred rallied now they lost their hospital bed and he cannot sleep well on a flat surface.  Sue tried to buy an elevated mattress from Mattress Land for $1700.00 but fortunately they bungled the delivery.  My brother and I talked them into getting a real hospital bed for $1800.00.

Dad insists he doesn’t need a nurse or an aid, but I told him it’s not for YOU it’s for SUE who needs to sleep more than 4 hours at a time.

In the meantime, he has no long-term elder care health insurance so…  UGH.
